Interestingly enough as I sit here on a Sunday night/Monday morning I find myself finishing up some work and listening to Last.fm. (*go ahead and add me, CrioKnight). I like to occasionally pick the "Recommended Station" because 5 years from when I first started using Last.fm at this point it knows my musical taste pretty well. (*sorry Pandora, I like your suggestions but I like my library.) As I'm listening expecting another stoner/Sublime band to come on I get Johnette Napolitano. For those of you who don't know who she is, she was the lead singer for a little band called Concrete Blonde. Granted, this band isn't everyone's "cup of tea" but after a few listens to some of the band's tunes you will have to admit that Johnette's voice is one of a kind. I digress. I just wanted to share that I heard the most beautiful version of Coldplay's "The Scientest" sung by Johnette Napolitano acoustic with her on guitar.
Three words, I understand you.
Interesting how a song you have heard a dozen times can be re-interpreted and again bring a tear to your eye. Cheers for a song that has meaning, again.

TO TAKE PLACE THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 28 IN THE A.M.

Expect to hear a series of sequenced blasts this Saturday, June 28 at around 7:30 a.m.
The implosion of the 12-story 2801 Ponce de Leon Boulevard building is taking place to give way to future construction as part of the Old Spanish Village development.
Due to safety precautions, Ponce de Leon Boulevard will be blocked off in the morning of the implosion, beginning at 6 a.m.
The City’s public safety personnel are expected to be on site to secure the area and prevent spectators from getting too close to the building. Demolitions experts say that the implosion will only last for a few minutes, and immediately after the cleanup process will start. Residents in the area should take proper precautions such as close all windows and doors because a cloud of dust is expected after the implosion."

So Saturday morning. 7:30 am the 12 story building will come down. See you there.

To all Dog Owners

My friend Alina emailed me this in the morning. I figured my blog would be the best way to get this info disseminated to as many people as possible.

Yesterday one of our "dogagility" friends experienced a tragedy and wanted me to pass a special message along to all of my dog loving friends and family. Please tell every dog owner you know.
Over the weekend the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. They loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog Calypso decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn't acting lethargic in any way.The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk. Half way through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly. Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company's web site, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats. Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that 'It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it.' True information about the mulch can be found here
This site gives the following information: Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman's Garden Supply and other Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called 'Theobromine'. It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die.
Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Just a word of caution, check what you are using in your gardens and be aware of what your gardeners are using in your gardens. Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker's chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, axanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacaobean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.
PLEASE GIVE THIS THE WIDEST DISTRIBUTION!

Wow! Two in a row! I continue my earnest effort to continue posting my findings for you here on The Max. I had a friend yesterday comment to me that he had seen most of the stuff I mentioned on The Max. But this is a good moment to mention, drop me a line and let me know. I know some of you are Digg.com addicts and are complete web denizens. But please realize that another good portion of you are not so addicted to the Web. So I continue my mission. I spent all morning hanging Christmas lights on the outside and all afternoon emailing back and forth and clearing my inbox. Now I just gotta sit down and sift through all these articles I have to edit. Enjoy the handful of links.

I'm thinking it's worth a shot. But I am going to attempt to revive The Max again. And lucky for you I still had you all on my mailing list. I have spent a lot of time reading and managing a great group of writers to produce a video game magazine on professional video gaming. There have been lots of bumps in the road but we have continued to push forward and are now finishing up issue three for January. I haven't found the need to put out a Max since most of you I have added on facebook and I've been linking so much stuff through there. But at the same time its taken me this long to feel bad that I haven't been using the www.galaxymax.com domain. Not to mention that I've had some people asking me when the next Max was coming out. You know who you are. So wait no more and here you go.

Two weeks. It took me two weeks. That wasn't bad was it? Rainy afternoons seemed to dominate the last couple of weeks but here we are on a Saturday morning and it's pretty damn sunny out. "Till about 4 PM," as pao says. Pao and Johnny out in the mid-west working in Nebraska and Missouri. I should have a copy of my first magazine in my hand on Monday so that's pretty exciting. Then a bunch of us are going to Dallas on Tuesday/Wednesday for QuakeCon. Should be crazy and fun. I'll probably have lots of photos from there. I'll keep people updated with our goings on. But it's work time. In the meanwhile. Here are a bunch of linkies to digest.

We always come across lots of weird renditions of a classic from way back when and Michael Jackson's Thriller is no exception. You might have seen some of these but it's still puts a smile on my face. Here are the The Indian Thriller straight from Bollywood and one that a cool blogger I read, Chris Glass, posted recently of a performance of Thriller in Lexington, Kentucky. The weirdest one is the one put out recently from questionable origins. I believe that the Filipino Prison Thriller is staged.

Chris Glass takes really cool photographs for his headers on his blog posts. He submitted a photo to a a flickr photo group that is collecting photos of the things you carry in your pocket. I'm guessing girls carry the most stuff around with them. Explains why there were always so many bouncy women on the original Let's Make a Deal. Monty would always ask for like needle and thread, nail clippers, or the occassional spoon and they ladies always had them. Hmm.
I gotta take a photo of the stuff in my pocket to submit.

The senator of Guam came out lately admitting to being an avid World Of Warcraft player. He's a level 70 Dwarf Priest. I'm not gonna get into details about his character. But it's always cool to see how our video gaming generation is growing into influential roles. Fine, it's Guam, who cares. But it's a start. Take a look at this article from the Pacific Daily News. I was surprised when my friend Alina sent me an email letting me know that the World Series of Video Games was airing on Sunday the 29th on CBS. Not that I didn't know, I was there. Well lots of other stuff happened this week that is ingrained in my brain but at the rate of exposure they have had it's not worth linking or mentioning. Let me see here, wow, Friday March 30th was the last time I did a "Max." Interestingly enough things have progressed in leaps and bounds since then.

Alain and Ingrid now have a child as well as Tony and Diana. Good luck to them. They'll need it.
Heroes finished since then. That was like two months ago.

Max finished up camp. Spent all his spare time playing with his Nintendo DS or his Playstation 2.

Sofi has spent her days coloring and playing Dora on her Game Boy.

Paola is now called Chairman Pao. She's now the chairperson for the SACS at her school.Don't ask me what that means, ask her. All I know it has to do with school standards.

Paola and Johnny just got back from Dallas, Texas from filming people for their documentary on QuakeCon and videogamers. They went to the World Series of Video Gaming(WSVG)where they got to see a whole new world outside of the annual convention they began filming at. This event in particular is all about competition. It featured Guitar Hero, World of Warcraft 3v3, Fight Night 3 for the Xbox 360, Counter Strike and Warcraft 3. Pretty neat.

My job keeps getting exciting. The prospect of dealing with new people at every turn,
lots of interest from our community of gamers and lots of games to play. Xbox 360s, PC games, you name it.

Well, let's see how long I can keep up the Max again. I do have less time than I did previously.

The drought of web links has now passed as I found lots of interesting stuff out there the last couple of days. And it seems that some of you have too. Thanks for sending them on down. Friday. Kids have no school so I'm taking Max later this afternoon to go see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or as how his friend's mom calls it, "Las Tortugas Ninja." Things are slowly moving along around here as I adjust to working from home. It seems I never leave my computer screen now as work melds with leisure. Between checking emails and shooting down some uglies in-game I need to find more extra curricular activities away from the screen. Oh, snap. I just got a copy of 300. The chaos of my new job is sucking my free time up. It leaves me to read entire masses of links when i get a chance. After almost a week there wasn't much to share. But wow. I realized that I had been collecting these for a while. Enjoy the links.

PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard. The site has made a book and now also has a traveling exhibit of the cards. We are fortunate enough here in Miami to have a viewing of the postcards raising funds for CHARLEE. CHARLEE raises fund for children neglected and abused in the foster care system. I marked my calendar and will try to make it out there. Click here for details of this really cool event. It's been a while since I posted anything. So please excuse the barrage of links. I left last Thursday for Curacao for a job interview of sorts. Long story short, I am now the Editor in Chief for ProGam3r Magazine (yes it's spelled with a 3 in there). I now work from home and will be traveling multiple times a year for tournament coverage in places like Sweden, Germany, France, South Africa, Australia and wherever the tournaments are being held. Very exciting indeed. But lucky for all of you I still have an addictive habit of reading news and am more than willing to continue sharing with you. Don't worry. I'll make sure that everyone gets a copy of the magazine in August when it debuts at Quakecon for one of the largest competitions in the country. Things are quickly changing around here. Enjoy.

These competitions award millions of dollars to the winners and the players are treated like A-class celebrities wherever they go. I can totally get into the politics of why the US hasn't adopted video games as a sport due to the moral policies of blah blah blah. Don't get me started. Either way. Good Monday!!!! Surprisingly it has been a busy day and I found some goodies to share with you all. But before that I want to congratulate Tony and Chad on their birthdays. I also have to apologize for my dumb mix-up of saying that Charlie's book launch was at Books and Books on the beach, it was in the Gables. A big crowd turned out to see the presentation. GG Charlie. The week that was but I just didn't tell you about it. It turns out that I was pretty busy at work this week. I even worked on the MLK "holiday." I am not saying that I didn't surf the web. I am saying that there just wasn't a lot going on to share. If it wasn't the iPhone, President Bush, kidnapped kids or the weed smoking NFL player it just didn't make headlines. Lucky for you I avoid that stuff and find the stuff that entertains. I am officially a weapon of mass distraction now. HAHA. I am sending it this morning because as of this hour I have lots of stuff now. So prepare for this week's "digest." It's a doozy. Enjoy.

This alarm clock is a very smart idea. The KidSleep Alarm Clock has pictures of a sleeping animal and an awake animal. If the kid gets up before the set time he can see the little sleeping critter as a cue to stay in bed. This is handy if you wanna get a couple of more winks of sleep without your kid waking you up. I don't think I'm having trouble adjusting to the new year anymore. I'm over 2006. I'm not getting lazier, I still get the 1,500 posts of news that I still peruse through daily. I just think I'm getting more selective as to what I put on here because I keep targeting who I can remember reads this and what type of people you are and what I can remember you liked. A few people have e-mailed and approached me going, "Where is the Max?" But I think the more poignant question is "Where is Abe?" I'm here. Just indulging in a form of replenishing my energy. I stayed away from news for about 3 weeks now and you know what? I'm no different for it. :)
So here we go again. Weeee!!!

Pao and I have been looking for bookshelves for months now. We just can't find what we have in our mind's eye and for a price that we are willing to pay for it. Which means, I won't have to work the week of Christmas. I guess it all works out in the end. I'm too tired to continue my banter. Hiya there. It's me again. Thursday. I backed up my address book. I shouldn't have that problem EVER again. :) Holidays are in full swing around here and I'm dealing with the shortcomings of a production team out in New Jersey of all places. They just can't get me my product on time to get it to the printer so i'll be dealing with putting out fires here at work all day today. Ugh. So now I will sip my coffee calmly, eat a couple of cookies that the property managers dropped off for Christmas and surf the web till I get something to do this morning. Lucky you. You get to reap my links.

My buddy Rahim in Dallas sent me this link to a really cool designed computer called the Flybook VM. It is a regular lap top but the screen comes apart and stands like a regular monitor if you want. Very ingenious. They're not available yet till December 20th but the price is pretty reasonable. Finally some good design put to use.

During the holidays we have people over for company or enjoy having some dinner with some pleasant music in the background. I have good news for Mozart fans in this case. The complete works of Mozart are now FREE. For the anniversary of Mozart's 250th birthday the International Mozart Foundation has acquired the right to publish his complete works on the internet for FREE. Visit the International Mozart Foundation site for some great classical music for those dinner occassions.

There is a series of videos that are mega popular on the web these days. They are called Will it Blend? These vids are marketing ads for BlendTec blenders. I know them from working at Starbucks and making Frappucinos with them. The guy in the clips blends everything from rake handles to full cans of Coke. His latest vid he blends an iPod. I almost cried. Just check out the site and the clips. The best ones are the "Do not try this at home" vids.

I don't know how I would feel waking up to candle wax being poured on my belly. But people in Japan are paying for this wake up service now. Strange wake up calls from Japan has a wide range of inexpensive ways to wake up. I thought they were kidding. But it's true!

Wednesday. Ended up going to Target last night for Christmas supplies. The Home Depot looked like the the days before a hurricane with the necessary supplies being scarce. Instead there was nothing Christmas related left. Plenty of hurricane supplies though and all the hand gadgets were gone as well. Now I have to put everything up at some point. Deadline is tomorrow. I'll probably be working late tonight and I'm on vacation next week, again. I guess that happens when you don't take vacation till the last month of the year. OK. I'm out of banter. Onto the links.

The holiday season has officially arrived for me. Mentally and physically. I was waiting and I think it happened Sunday night. I'm going to do more tests and studies to determine exactly when. Regardless, the season is upon us and good things and little miracles happen everywhere. Got some news this morning that some friends of mine got engaged. Congratulations Dirt and Nimby!!! That's super cool. I got like 30% of the house lighting done and I need to buy clips and more lights to put on the house. I'm still debating on icicle lights vs. straight thread lights. What are your thoughts on the lights? He he. I'm full of energy on a Monday morning and sucking down a cup of Starbucks that the office manager decided to bring in. TGIF. Woot! Office dinner this evening. Poplife tomorrow, kids birthday Sunday. Christmas lights to put up on Saturday. Busy busy weekend. Hopefully I won't be too exhausted come Monday. Tuesday. Making coffee first thing in the morning and I think finally getting into the swing of the Christmas spirit. The kids watched all my old Rankin Bass favorites with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Baby New Year and all of those great stop animation classic characters. In the meanwhile I was shocked and amazed by Heroes last night. OMG. WTF was that about? New episodes won't start again till January 22nd. This gives everyone plenty of time to watch and catch up if you haven't done so. Things at work here are picking up even more momentum and I should be more or less done by Thursday/Friday. Happy Monday! The weekend was awesome. Alex, Paola's brother, had a wonderful wedding. It was very warm and inviting. The food was awesome, the reception location was amazing and the kids had a blast. I will get some pictures up this evening. I have other pictures that I want to put up as well from little things in the past weeks. Today I begin my crunch time and work will be hectic for the next few days. This means nothing for The Max. It's FRIDAY!!! I am headed for a weekend involving my brother in-law's wedding, Congrats, and a weekend of Christmas decorating. I am slowly getting into the holiday spirit. It's just taking a little bit. I think I had the same problem last year. But as the weekend winds down I am trying to arrange another Guitar Hero evening so if anyone is interested let me know what days are good for you and if your interested. The last one was small and intimate since I guess not everyone can coordinate dates at this time of year to just be available all at the same time. Things are moving along here at work with our first deadline for 2007 coming along in a week or so. I can't believe I'm typing up 2007! I am currently working on my "downloading" tutorial and I'm sure lots of people will have questions after it. So just drop me a line and I'll get back to you. But here is a no-no that they have pulled for the holiday season. They created this sneaky trick in order to scam some money from their customers. Shame on you VW.

For those of you using iTunes on a PC there is a cool little plug-in called The Filter. The Filter works by letting you pick a couple of tracks you want to listen to in iTunes and then builds you a playlist that will match the mood and tone set by the tracks that you choose. Pretty neat.

It's Thursday!! This week seems to be moving along really quickly. It could be the fact that I was off Monday and Tuesday. :)
I redid the appearance of GalaxyMax.com and I think it is now more legible than previous versions. I want to point out that I will be doing small segments on the site to teach the less computer saavy how to do stuff such as download, copy DVDs and movies to your iPod and any other how-tos that you might be interested in. If you want me to address something in particular just drop me an email and I'll get right on it. This is for all of us not just those of us with computer know-how. Now on to the links.

The Los Angeles Auto Show exhibited this week. I've seen many photos of concept cars and they all look a bit too "futuristic" for my taste usually. But this concept car from Volkswagen, the Tiguan debuted this week. The launch supposedly was in a nightclub type atmosphere and seems to be something aimed at the mid-size SUV market. Can Volkswagen get any cooler?

I know that I will begin to finds lots of plugs for items that would make great Christmas gifts throughout the next couple of weeks. So please bear with me. I might have shown you these before. For the classical music buffs out there. A new website called MusOpen.com has collected all free music available and put them in one place. They also have an internet radio station. Pretty neat.

Asides from our claims to fame such as being a third world country, having a cool club scene within South Beach we also have one of the coolest art shows come to our fair haven. Art Basel. It's funny that I think it's so cool because I've never been to it. I refuse to hob knob with wannabes and actual art scene know it alls. :o I digress. The Deitch/Paper Art Store will be opening in the Design District of Miami during Art Basel this year. Some of the stuff they produce is really cool looking. I am back from a well rested vacation. A week and a half of disconnecting (only from posting news) and doing as little as possible in order to chill the heck out. Thanksgiving was great and I'm revving up for the holidays. Lots to do and lots to prepare for. I will have a digest posting of the last week and a half. I just happened to have left it on my desktop at home this morning. I'll send it along with the rest tomorrow. Congratulations to Johnny Calderin for making it through another year and having a birthday last week. Also congratulations to expectant parents Alain and Ingrid, buon chance. Some of us got together last weekend for some Guitar Hero action and I think people enjoyed it more than they expected to. Fun times. In the meanwhile vacation is over and here's The Max for today.

Tuesday!!! Day two of what the calendar says is the second worst day of the week following Monday. :P Heroes last night was awesome! AWESOME! I always thought that this game called Karaoke Revolution (which has 4 installments already) was pretty lame because you sang along to a song track with cheesy animated figures. Now they've caught on that they should improve on this. Shame it wasn't the same company. The game is called SingStar. It comes with two microphones that you can plug into your PS2 and instead of singing to cheesy animated tracks you sing along to the actual music video. OMG. I hope you all find or found the time to go out and vote today. I'm
not going to get into the reasons why. If you don't have the
motivation to do so, so be it. It's just a good feeling to feel like
your part of the bigger picture. It's one of the only times that one
can feel like they live in a place worthwhile as compared to when you
watch the news and here all the crap that is going on and how we're
viewed worldwide. All that asides be grateful we live in America. We
can do whatever we want without having to worry that someone is going

I'm gonna try to submit a photo of this A-hole if I get a moment to photoshop one. I think this news clip will get more attention now as a farce of the guy than the reason that he first got noticed.

I have a horrible chocolate hangover from yesterday's Halloween trick or treat-o-rama. Almost solid 2 hours of walking door to door like Saturday morning Jehovah's witnesses hoping for that Holy Grail of more chocolate than hard candy. I think people have caught on. We went home with a slew of chocolate confections. Some sneaky old people did throw in a cute little bag of hard candies in there but mostly M&M bags, Snickers, Milky Ways and Kit Kats. This coming weekend I see kids bouncing off the ceiling.

Heroes last night on NBC was absolutely amazing! OMG. Everyone I have bumped into this morning is ranting and raving about it. My email box had almost 70 emails just on last night's show. HAHA. There was nothing I found of interest today. All this talk about the YouTube purchase and Foley-gate this week was just ponderous. I achieved something today that I havent' done in like two years. I can leave work on time on a deadline day. I'm off to the WaWaso and tomorrow night the Pao and I have a wonderful dinner lined up for Ingrid's birthday. Lots happening soon. I'll keep you all posted. Have a wonderful weekend in case I don't send out another message till Monday. Now go outdoors and do something besides stare at your screen. I did find this one little toy today. We're talking cool little gadgets. I think Charlie, Kristen and Michelle will appreciate this the most. The Walking Robot Pencil Sharpener. I'm currently trying to figure the purpose of it all. I find that I'm really not a blogger. I don't enjoy posting about all the crap I do all day. I would bore you to death. But I do like sharing and talking about the cool tidbits I find on my sojourn via the digital intar-web. If anyone has any ideas as to what purpose this can serve someone else, let me know.

I know a few of you out there are into cameras and photography. OK, maybe a few of you is too many a number. I can only think of Kristen, Charlie and Johnny and l4mby. Well for you three then, here is a new camera in the Lomo-graphy tradition. It's called the Oktomat. With multiple lenses (a total of 8) it should produce some pretty nice photos. And for the price ($40 bucks) I think it might be of interest to you guys. Not to mention that it looks mega neat. Like a cubist spider without legs.

I may have never mentioned this site before but that's not what I'm posting about. I thought it was pretty neat that they came out with a Star Trek 40th Anniversary Phaser.

OMG. I want to get some dogs just to dress them up for Halloween with these. My favorite is the costume is the Yoda costume but Darth Vader still rocks.
